Wednesday June 22th, 2005

President’s Message: In Luis and Carolina’s absence ( they are in Chicago for the Rotary International’s Annual Conference) Alex Rodriquez led the meeting.

Community Day at the Fair: We will be participating in the West Covina Community Day at the LA County Fair on Sept 30th, 2005. Dave Harris is chair of this fun event, which includes free passes for the club members involved. Please contact Dave Harris if you are interested in participating.

Red Ribbon Rally. This year the rally will be held October 29th at West Covina High School. Alex Rodriquez is the chair from our club. The planning meetings are held at Denny’s Restaurant on Thursdays at 7:30 AM – however, not every Thursday, so make sure you check with Alex before going to the meetings.

Every Rotarian Every Year: Just a reminder to donate $100 to the RI Foundation so the club can meet its goal of 100% participation.

50/50 Raffle: The lucky winner for the day was Greg Benton, who walked away with a whole $9. Now only 46 cards left!

Our Website: Our website is constantly being updated with club information. Check out the many photos too. Some are quite interesting!

Member news: Congratulations to Don and Cheryl Morrin who celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary today. Quite an accomplishments. But as Gary noted, he wonders if Cheryl wasn’t appointed to Don by God, not by choice……..
Police Golf Tournament: The West Covina Police department is holding is annual golf tournament on June 30th. We need to support the groups that support us, so if you can, please sign up for a fun day of golfing.
Fundraiser: Our new Sgt-at-Arms Mark Tedesco was absent, so we didn’t get to enjoy anyone spinning the wheel this week.

Program: Two of the Scholarship recipients, Angelica Pena and Josselle Macatiag, both from Nogales High School, came for a visit during the breakfast. They both expressed their sincere gratitude for the scholarships received. They both echoed that receiving a scholarship like the one from our Rotary Club gives them hope that people do care, that they do have a chance for getting a great college education even when they and their parents can not afford the expenses. Both will be attending UCLA in the fall, studying Medicine, Public Relations and Political Science – as they are not quite 100% sure yet which fields they will pursue.
